Cheers to the Interns

July 28th, 2010

Thank you to all our past design interns. Our interns have always been a big help. They are hard workers who are dedicated to following their passion of graphic design. We wish you success in all your future endeavors.

Our past interns have been a wonderful help with the work we do here. Although much of the work they do is production and assistance, they have also been responsible for some fantastic design. Since our internship has always required advanced knowledge of applications and design, we’re pretty picky about who we choose to work with. Some of those interns have even continued to work with us on a freelance basis after they’ve finished the internship. Many of our interns have moved on to great careers and success in graphic design. I wish we could hire them all as full-time designers, but we’ll need to get a few more clients before doing that. :)

I’ve been working with interns for quite some time now. Even before starting this company, I worked with interns at past jobs. Our company has been offering internships for the past 5 years and we’ve worked with some amazing, talented and professional students. I think teaching at a college helped me appreciate it more and helps us make the internship more educational. I find that if you treat the students with respect and offer education at a trade, it becomes a mutual benefit for both parties involved. The internship has proven to be about as much work as it is a benefit to the company, but we like doing it, we like the people and it helps the young designers to get a foot in the door.

I get many companies asking about how they can get interns for their low end work. My first response is asking them if they will be able to make it educational and a mutual benefit. Unfortunately, that’s when they start to loose interest.

Our current intern Alex is a student at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Steve, our Winter intern was from Syracuse University, and Alex (another Alex) our Fall intern was from County College of Morris. We’ve been fortunate to have interns from many different schools. Recently, Alex has helped produce a catalog, designed logos, work on a photo shoot, participated in a client meeting, worked on some websites, designed ads, signage and more!

If you are one of our past interns and are reading this, we’d love to hear from you.

GREAT POST! i am a former intern of paul’s. I attended County College of Morris in 2003 and graduated in 2006 interning for his firm. I learned a great deal from Paul and have continued my journey in the graphic design field. I am now attending The Art Institute of Charlotte in North Carolina and plan to graduate next fall. It has been a roller coaster of a ride learning new techniques and learning the world of free lance, i have since done some free lance work for a few companies down here in the south. I urge those who intern now with Paul’s studio to take full advantage of the oppertunities given as it will be the best learning experience you will ever have while in school.
